Combining Tradition with Modern Comfort
Turning a 1960s bungalow into a beautiful oak frame house was a dream come true for our clients. They wanted a home that mixed classic charm with modern efficiency, and we were thrilled to help them achieve it.
We started by carefully demolishing the old bungalow, even building a new home for the resident bats! This attention to detail continued throughout the project.
Our clients chose Oakwrights’ innovative Wrightwall system for its top-notch insulation and air-tightness, giving the home a cozy feel and great energy efficiency.
As the main contractors, we took care of everything from the ground up. After laying the foundations, we collaborated closely with Oakwrights during their five-week construction phase. Once the oak frame and walls were up, we built the external walls, tiled the roof, and finished the interiors to create a warm, inviting space.
The house is also packed with eco-friendly features like an air source heat pump, solar panels, and a mechanical heat vent recovery system. These green technologies make the home sustainable and reflect our commitment to the environment.
Our clients loved the process and the results. They appreciated our experience, clear communication, and cost-saving suggestions without compromising quality. We coordinated skilled trades and managed inspections smoothly, ensuring everything met the highest standards.
Client's Review
'When we decided to build a new oak framed house with a highly energy efficient wall and roof system from Oakwrights and with renewable systems including PV panels, solar thermal panels, air source heat pump and under floor heating throughout the house, we needed to find a builder that had worked with these systems before. Tom’s experience of having installed these types of systems and having heating engineers who are experienced in installing these was key in the selection of Tom above other builders we had met.
Working with Tom from the initial concept design, visiting Oakwrights, to building the house was constructive and informative. Tom made many suggestions during the initial design phase and also spent considerable time sourcing material samples to assess before we finally selected the materials we wanted. Tom also took a major lead in engaging with the architect during the designing and drawing of the building regulation drawings to ensure that there were no issues prior to building the house. Tom made many suggestions before the build started and during the build on how to reduce costs without compromising the overall quality or finish of the house.
As with any new build with a bespoke design there are going to be issues that arise, when these occurred Tom proposed a number of options to consider that enabled us to make informed decisions.
Tom has a group of supporting trades; heating, plumbing, electrical, plastering etc. that are skilled and knowledgeable which he coordinated on site in a very efficient and effective way. Tom also managed the different authorities and inspection visits to ensure that building regulations were complied with and mortgage inspections supported.
We had a very positive experience working with Tom and his team and recommend him to anyone considering an extension through to a new build'
